NOW / Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
NOW helps people find nearby activities and meet in real life. This policy explains the information used to make that work, who can see it, and the choices you have.
1. Who is responsible?
NOW is operated by Present Labs, based in the Netherlands. Present Labs is responsible for the data processing described here. For privacy questions, requests, or data inquiries, contact support@joinnowapp.com.
2. Information we use
- Account details: your email address, authentication information, account identifier, display name, optional bio and photos, and age and terms confirmations. Password authentication is handled by Supabase.
- Location and places: your foreground device location when you permit it, areas you choose to browse, and the location and meeting place you attach to an activity. Nearby discovery sends coordinates to our backend. NOW does not request continuous background location tracking.
- Activity and social content: activities, join requests, group memberships, friendships, comments, likes, messages, and other content you submit.
- Safety and support: blocks, reports, supporting evidence, and messages you send to support.
- Technical information: service providers receive information such as IP address, browser/device details, request times, and error or security logs when delivering the service.
3. Why we use it
We use account details, activity content, and messages to provide the service you request (performance of our contract with you). We use foreground device location with your permission to provide nearby features; you can withdraw that permission through your device or browser settings. We use necessary security logs, reports, and support records for our legitimate interests in operating a reliable service, preventing abuse, and protecting users. Where required, we process information to comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. This website does not add advertising trackers or analytics cookies. The app uses local storage for sign-in and preferences such as your theme; clearing it may sign you out.
4. What other people can see
Your display name, profile content, and activities are shared with users according to the app’s visibility rules. Activity participants can see information needed to coordinate a meetup. Messages are made available to their intended recipients; they are not end-to-end encrypted. Authorized administration may access records when necessary for support or safety.
Approximate location reduces the precision shown to others; it does not make you anonymous. Activity text, photos, and named meeting places may still reveal where you are. Uploaded photos use public image URLs, which can be viewed by anyone who has the link. Do not upload private documents or sensitive images.
5. Service providers
NOW uses Supabase for authentication, database services, and image storage. The public website is delivered using Cloudflare infrastructure. Map views use CARTO/OpenStreetMap tiles; place searches use Photon, hosted by komoot. These map services receive the requests necessary to show the selected area or search results, along with connection information such as your IP address. Support email is routed to the Present Labs support team.
Providers may process information outside the Netherlands or the European Economic Area. Where a transfer requires safeguards, applicable transfer mechanisms such as an adequacy decision or Standard Contractual Clauses must be used. Contact us for information about the providers and safeguards applicable to your data. We may also disclose information when legally required or necessary to address abuse and protect rights.
6. Retention and deletion
Accounts, profiles, direct messages, and ongoing social relationships are kept while needed to provide your account, until removed or a deletion request is completed. Activities stop appearing when they expire. Expired activities and dependent content are scheduled for cleanup; disappearance from the feed does not guarantee immediate removal from every storage system.
Safety reports and their evidence have a scheduled 30-day retention period, unless a specific legal obligation or safety investigation requires longer retention. Uploaded files, authentication records, backups, support correspondence, and infrastructure logs have separate lifecycles. We retain them only for the operational, security, or legal purpose that requires them, and can explain any applicable retention when handling your request.
For complete account deletion—including remaining sign-in records and uploaded files—use our account-deletion request page. The current in-app deletion action removes your profile and linked app records but does not, by itself, complete all of those additional steps. We explain any data that must be retained when responding.
7. Your choices and rights
You can edit profile details, change location permission, use approximate locations, block users, and request account deletion. Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, or object to processing. You can withdraw consent without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
Send requests to support@joinnowapp.com. We may ask for proportionate verification of account ownership, but never your password. We normally respond within one month, and will explain any permitted extension. You may lodge a complaint with the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or your local data protection authority.
8. Age requirement and updates
NOW is for adults aged 18 and over. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us so we can investigate and remove it where appropriate. We will update this page when practices change and notify users of material changes where required.
